Rule 23. Summons; form

(a) The summons shall be in the name of the Government of the Virgin Islands; shall be attested and signed as provided by Rule 25 and directed to the defendant; shall contain the name and address of the court; the name of the plaintiff, and the name and address of the plaintiff's attorney, if any, otherwise, the plaintiff's address and the time within which these rules require the defendant to enter his appearance or file his answer with the clerk of the court; and shall notify the defendant that in the case of his failure to do so, judgment by default may be rendered against him for the relief demanded in the complaint.

(b) The summons in landlord and tenant cases, forcible entry and detainer actions, and small claims actions, shall be in the name of the Government of the Virgin Islands; shall be attested and signed as provided by Rule 25, and directed to the defendant; shall contain the name and address of the court, the name of the plaintiff, and the name and address of the plaintiff's attorney, if any, otherwise, the plaintiff's address, and shall require the defendant to appear and state his defense at a certain time and place to be therein specified, which time shall be not less than five days, nor more than 15 days from the date of service of the summons; and shall notify the defendant that in case of his failure to appear and state his defense, judgment by default may be rendered against him for the relief demanded in the complaint.
